Saturday September 16th is your DC404 meeting at Manuel’s Tavern at 2pm
Nathan Underwood (piratica) will be presenting “Getting Started in Amateur Radio (HAM”.
Abstract:
I’ve been ‘gonna get my HAM license’ now for years and, finally, went for it. It was easier, cheaper (well, sort of) and more fun than I expected. While it’s still fresh on my mind, I thought I’d share it with the group in case there were any others that were in that ‘gonna do it’ phase.
Bio:
Christian. Husband. Father. Hacker. Perpetual n00b. Martial arts nerd. Amateur radio guy’ (full disclosure, I kind of ripped this off from Johnny Long) Nathan’s fascination with computers began as an elementary school kid with a Mattel Aquarius computer back in the early 1980s where he got hooked learning BASIC programming and sending AT commands to a modem (he was war dialing when war dialing wasn’t cool). It turned into an MOS as a Tech Controller / Microwave Systems Operator / Maintaner (31N / 31P) in the US Army where he learned about telecommunications, opsec and infosec at the US Signal Center at Ft. Gordon and a career in technology when he was honorably discharged. He began doing technology consulting on ‘the outside’ and, after completing a number of contract positions and serving in a number network admin/systems admin roles, Nathan started a tech support company for small to medium businesses in 2002 called Cyber Tech Cafe and more recently an offensive security company (also focusing on the SMB market) called Piratica. Nathan enjoys spending time with his wife and kids and training martial arts (Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and Tae Kwon Do) and tinkering with amateur radio.

We will also be hosting a mini lock pick village and NetKotH (Network King of the Hill).
Bring a laptop and your favorite tools (like Kali Linux or ArchStrike)
