DC404 Hybrid Meeting – January 18th

Thursday, January 16th, 2025 by narknet

Saturday January 18th is your DC404 hybrid meeting

.

All ages/skill levels welcome. No dues, feel free to bring new friends.

DC404 is experimenting with running hybrid meetings, so like all hacking, we expect issues, but we will improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Our in person meeting is at Manual’s Tavern and our online meeting is via Big Blue Button.

The meeting speaker (when we have one) will be streamed to both the in person and online meetings.

.

Guled Abdilahi (reducto) will be presenting: How Your Python Code Could Be Hacked (And How to Stop It)

In this lightning talk, we’ll explore some of the most frequent pitfalls Python developers encounter that can lead to security vulnerabilities. You’ll learn how to quickly identify these issues and implement practical solutions to address them.

We’ll also showcase a selection of open-source tools and resources designed to streamline your development workflow and enhance the security of your projects. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned developer, this talk will provide actionable insights to help you write better, safer Python code.

.

Guled Abdilahi (@[email protected]) has spent the past decade building and defending software systems across diverse industries, including fintech, telecommunications, media, and entertainment. From working hands-ons with developers to secure petabytes-scale data pipelines to directly securing millions of endpoints across 40+ countries, Guled brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned technologist with a passion for creating scalable security solutions. As a OWASP Chapter leader, he has championed the importance of “shifting left” by integrating security practices early in the software development lifecycle.

.

We will have time after the presentation for people to to share what they are working on. Your project doesn’t have to be complete and slides are not required (like show-n-tell).

.

The in person meeting and online meeting spaces will open at 13:00 on Saturday so that people will have time to connect and work out any technical issues.

The meeting will start at 14:00.

DC404 meets in person at Manuel’s Tavern in either the First Level room or The Eagle’s Nest. Free parking is behind Manuel’s and across North Highland, next to the laundromat.
