DC404 Hybrid Meeting – November 18th

Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 by narknet

Saturday November 18th is your DC404 hybrid meeting

.

All ages/skill levels welcome. No dues, feel free to bring new friends.

DC404 is experimenting with running hybrid meetings, so like all hacking, we expect issues, but we will improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Our in person meeting is at Manual’s Tavern and our online meeting is via Big Blue Button.

The meeting speaker (when we have one) will be streamed to both the in person and online meetings.

.

The November & December DC404 meetings are reserved for the Annual DC404 Geek Gift Guide.

Bring your list of must have items. If you already have the item(s), show them to us so we can ooh and awe.

This is more like “show and tell” so a formal presentation is not required but if you have slides, you can share your screen.

dcØde (one of our members) put up a spreadsheet to reduce duplication and give us time to buy items for Christmas. To see the format for entries check out the previous year’s tab.

DC404 Hybrid Meeting – October 21st

Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 by narknet

Saturday October 21st is your DC404 hybrid meeting

The meeting speaker (when we have one) will be streamed to both the in person and online meetings.

.

Paul David will be presenting: Event Tracing on Linux

Linux offers powerful tracing capabilities for observing and analyzing events across applications, which is often useful for detecting malicious activity or providing important visibility. However, the Linux kernel offers a wide variety of ways to acquire this data, such as ftrace and eBPF, adding confusion to how they all come together. This presentation aims to provide a clear overview of the different data sources, interfaces, and frontends for collecting and analyzing event data with a particular focus on monitoring application behavior to detect malicious activity.

Paul David is a software engineer with a background in writing performant software for everything from endpoint protection software to signal processing applications for software-defined radio.

Chris Silvers will be presenting: The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)

The Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) is the new security framework the Department of Defense (DoD) is requiring Defense Industrial Base (DIB) contractors to comply with. CMMC 2.0, released in late 2021, aims to protect Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) with the evolving nature of contemporary cybersecurity threats in mind. In this talk, Chris Silvers will explore the historical progression of DoD cybersecurity requirements (including DFARS 7012), highlight the most impactful new requirements included in CMMC, and provide his expert guidance for DIB contractors to forge a path to certification.

Chris, one of less than 100 individuals officially certified as both a Provisional CMMC Assessor and a Provisional CMMC Instructor, has led CMMC instruction for almost 500 students. His positioning on the front lines of the CMMC 2.0 rollout, and his cumulative 25-plus years in cybersecurity, uniquely qualify him to guide DIB contractors through the certification process.
