When we see the terms Natural Language Processing (NLP) or Machine Learning (ML), often, our guts are correct, and it is vendor marketing material, frequently containing FUD. After tinkering with various libraries in Python and R with the use of some OSINT and SOCMINT techniques, I have found a use for NLP and ML that is 100% FUD free in the form of a brand new, Python based tool.

In this presentation, which goes further than the previous DECEPTICON presentation, we address topics that I have frequently spoken about in past years is disinformation, deception, OSINT, and OPSEC. When working through learning NLP and ML in Python, it dawned on me: marry these technologies with DECEPTICON for good. Enter the DECEPTICON bot. The DECEPTICON bot is a python* based tool that connects to social media via APIs to read posts/tweets to determine patterns of posting intervals and content then takes over to autonomously post for the user. What is the application you ask: people who are trying to enhance their OPSEC and abandon social media accounts that have been targeted without setting off alarms to their adversaries. Use case scenarios include public figures, executives, and, most importantly – domestic violence and trafficking victims.

Joe Gray is a passionate OSINT Practitioner and Instructor. Currently employed as a Senior OSINT Specialist at QOMPLX, Joe also teaches a variety of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) courses via The OSINTion. Joe is a frequent competitor in many OSINT-adjacent capture the flag (CTF) events. Notably as a solo competitor, Joe won the 2017 DerbyCon Social Engineering CTF (SECTF), placed 2nd in the HackFest SECTF (despite not speaking French), and 3rd Place in the NCPTF Missing Persons CTF. As a member of the Password Inspection Agency, Joe and the team won the TraceLabs OSINT Search Party during DEFCON 28, placed 2nd in the Global CTF before that, and have had many other successful outings in CTFs. Joe is the author of Practical Social Engineering due in February 2021 via NoStarch Press. Joe has contributed blogs to a variety of sources such as TripWire, IBM, Forbes, and Dark Reading. He is also the author of the tools WikiLeaker and the DECEPTICON Bot.

The Challenges VPNs Face Today And Into The Decade Ahead

The challenges and threats are growing for VPN operators and their users starting with 50% hostile foreign country ownership of the entire consumer VPN market, followed by slow legacy protocols, a surprising amount of misconfiguration, the NSA’s announcement of TLS Break and Inspect risks in December 2019, and the emergence of viable Universal Gate Quantum Computers in the next 5 years. Thankfully, Post-Quantum Cryptography aka PQC will become mainstream in the next few years as NIST is in round 3 (finalist round) with 6 candidates and 6 alternates (three PKE/KEM and three digital signatures).

Andrew is a third-generation programmer who has been writing software for over 20 years. He is a prior president of the Nashville Linux Users Group and board member of Nashville 2600, founded two computer vision companies, a mobile app training company, and wrote part of the Dari Motion Health Platform which achieved FDA 510(k) clearance in 2018.
He is most well-known for version 2 of TryRuby.org. He is an inventor of three patents. Two are assigned to Punchh Inc and one (regarding decoy routing) is assigned to his current company AmbitVPN.com. Whenever he has a sliver of free time you can find him working on a software defined radio using call sign KK4HXE.

We are hackers. We improvise, adapt, and overcome. So In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus), DC404 will be holding virtual instead of physical meetings.

We (the admins) put out a call for teleconferencing applications and after looking at all the requirements, and testing applications, we decided to use Jitsi.

This is not to say that using Jitsi is set in stone. Like all things during the COVID-19, crisis we have to be flexible

Jitsi struck a balance between costs, performance, supported operating systems, privacy, and security concerns of our members.

Jitsi allows members to start up breakout sessions on their own by simply browsing to https://meet.jit.si/, entering a meeting space name, and pressing enter. No registration is required and Jitsi does not ask for your email address.

The DC404 Jitsi meeting space will open at 13:00 on Saturday 3/21/2020 so that people will have time to connect and work out any technical issues.

The presentation will start at 14:00.

Jitsi works best with Chrome or Chromium. In testing, Firefox and Safari proved to be incompatible.

The Misconceptions Of Open Source Intelligence

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is a massive #buzzword within the hacker community, and I know we would all like to think we know what OSINT is… I’ll be talking about the differences between Open Source Information and Open Source Intelligence; including what I like to call Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 OSINT. Additionally we’ll touch on data organization and how to do OSINT internationally (outside of the US) using real life practices.

Zoey Selman (aka V3rbaal) is a Senior Intelligence Analyst at Dark Horse Intelligence, whose role is to aid in the discovery of Open Source Intelligence. She is also a Director of Trace Labs and Blue Team Village at DEFCON. Zoey is passionate and experienced in Open Source Intelligence and Human Intelligence, working on active investigations and aiding law enforcement. She is currently a professional polygrapher and is working towards becoming a licensed detective. Zoey obtained her degree in Cybersecurity whilst in Australia, prior to her relocation to the United States. You can find her Twitter and other contact methods via v3rbaal.github.io

We will have time after the presentation for people to to share what they are working on. Your project doesn’t have to be complete and slides are not required (like show-n-tell).

As things settle down we will consider hosting a virtual NetKotH CTF and lock pickers can run lock picking breakout sessions.
